Mendoza is the wine capital of Argentina, which should be all the reason you need to visit this fabulous little town. I spent a cheeky weekend in this Malbec producing paradise and discovered all the things to do in Mendoza.
Go for a walk around this cute little village and take in some of the sights. Then treat yourself to a delicious dinner at one of the cute local restaurants.
Sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast (hopefully it’s free) at your hostel to prepare yourself for an afternoon of day drinking at one of Mendozas finest wineries – Bodega Casarena. The 5 course wine matched tasting menu here will set u back about $50USD but it’s totally worth it. You start off with an in-depth tour of the vineyard and the wine making process. From the harvesting to the bottling. Then you’ll head over to the magnificent dining room for 3 hours of delicious food and solid drinking. We made some fabulous friends and spent the afternoon laughing our heads off. An insider tip, make sure you ask for re-fills as they won’t offer them, but are happy to oblige once asked.
You’re probably all tuckered out from lunch so treat yo self to an early night.
Post early night, you’ll be ready and raring to spend your day riding a bike around the numerous wineries in the Maipu Region. The team at Baccus Biking will help you with everything you need. Bikes, helmets and a curated map of the best vineyards to your taste. We visited four all together and were quite giggly on the way home.
Another opportunity to treat yo self with an opulent dinner at Valle de Uco restaurant at The Vines Resort and spa. If you’re a fan of The Chef’s table like I am, you’ll recognise the head chef – Francis Mallmann from episode 3. This one will break the budget, but is well worth it to try his individual take on the local delicacy asado, with meat, fruit and vegetables all grilled to perfection.
Head on knowing you squeezed all you could out of the bike riding wine chugging city of Mendoza.
